The Kindle reader is a digital media reader that is designed and exclusively marketed by Amazon. Kindle users can download and read eBooks, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. Kindle owners can essentially store his or her entire collection of books in a device the size of a traditional paperback. Book lovers and avid readers nowadays are getting fascinated with the capabilities of this seemingly flimsy device.

Amazon's new Kindle is already enticing enough, with all its impressive features such as the enhanced E-Ink Pearl Technology display, the larger storage capacity, which can now hold up to 3,500 books, and the overall physical attributes that has significantly become more appealing to many consumers. But did you know that there are certain features and shortcuts that most Kindle owners do not know about? The Kindle 3, or third generation Kindle, can do more than just display eBooks.

The Kindle's menu button, for example, is not just for accessing the menu list. When you press it, you can see the current time displayed on the top-center of the screen. If you press the menu button while on the home screen, you will also be able to see the remaining free memory of your electronic book reader displayed on the top-left of the display screen, expressed in megabytes.

Amazon's new Kindle reader has reading shortcuts as well, which many of its owners may not know about. As you are enjoying your newly downloaded eBook, you can jump to the start of the next chapter by pressing the "Right Arrow" key on the device's directional pad. If you decide to go back to the start of the previous chapter, just press the "Left Arrow" key and you're there. Adding a bookmark is made easy as well by pressing "Alt + B". The bookmark is then placed exactly where the cursor is located on the page.

Want to turn on the "text-to-speech" feature of your Kindle? There is a shortcut for that too. While you are on a particular page, you can press the "Shift" key and the "Sym" key at the same time to turn on the said feature. The text-to-speech will then begin reading in the location where your cursor lies. If you wish to stop the function, simply press the same button combination. If you want to listen to your mp3 files while reading, just press the "Alt" and "Spacebar" buttons, and the mp3 player will start playing your songs.

For many Kindle owners, having a better insight on this amazing electronic book reader makes the overall experience a bit more satisfying and fun. The two hidden games that come with this new Kindle will surely surprise many Kindle owners. Just by pressing "Shift + Alt + M" will open "Minesweeper", and the "GoMoku" game can only be accessing through "Minesweeper" by pressing "G". Knowing all these Kindle secrets will certainly give you an edge over you friends and fellow Kindle owners.
