Do Your Own Pedicures At Home: Tips On How to Do It

It has been proven that there are numerous advantages to getting pedicures. In addition to making your feet feel better, when massage is included, pedicures have been found to lower your stress and pain and promote better blood circulation. Professional pedicures, however, are not something that many folks are interested in having. Going for a professional pedicure means having your feet subjected to things that have been used on many other customers and you never know if the salon has excellent hygienic standards. Luckily, it's possible to give yourself pedicures. Here is how you can perform a DIY pedicure without having to leave your home.

First, you need to remove any existing polish using a non-acetone polish remover (acetone can cause numerous health issues). Then clip your nails straight across and smooth down any rough edges. Use a toenail clipper for this and not a fingernail clipper. Fingernail clippers are curved and can make your toenails become ingrown and begin hurting.
Use a foot bath to soak your feet. Let your feet stay in warm water for several minutes. It is also good to add things like bath salts, skin softeners or skin soothers to the water. This makes your foot bath a lot more relaxing and is a terrific way to indulge your feet to help them feel better. You can find ingredients for your foot bath in just about every store that is selling bath and body products. There are some that cost a lot of money but select the ingredients you like the most.

Remove any calluses or rough spots that could remain after your foot bath with a pumice stone. Don't use a callus shaver or a tool that is similar. A plain old pumice is all you would ever need to use.

Rinse your feet once you are finished using the pumice. When you have washed off any pumice or callus dust and also any foot soak additives that could be clinging on, apply some moisturizing lotion. There are many moisturizing lotions created particularly for the feet. It is fine to merely rub in the lotion rapidly if you are in a rush, but try not to settle for this. But you have time, try massaging it in. Massage has been found to help settle down your feet and, by extension, your whole body.

Now that your feet are all clean, callus-free clear of calluses and have been properly moisturized, if you have time, it is time to make them attractive. This is absolutely not an essential step, but knowing that your toes are attractive looking can help you feel better about the rest of you, even if you keep your feet closed into shoes all day. Cuticle pushers are the best option for pushing back your cuticles (trimmers can cause a number of injuries and infections). Your base coat needs to be of a good nail strengthening polish. After the first coat has had the time to dry properly, apply whatever colors or designs that you like!
