A Short Review Of The Motorola MH230R 23-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio

By Andrew Parker

If you have ever been in a position where you have to keep in touch with other people that may be too far away to talk to but communication is needed then you know how crucial a two way radio system can be. To put it simply, two way radios can truly help you keep in touch with a group of people when needed.

Yearly, all the guys in our family go on a fishing excursion to Lake Champlain. There are normally 10 to 20 of us and we normally take 5 to 8 boats. One of the main issues we always had was getting everyone back for lunch or dinner because we all like to eat at the same time. We would actually row around the lake, usually for hours, trying to find everyone and tell them it is time to eat.

Then a couple of years ago, I decided that I would get some walkie talkies and put them in the boats. During my search I came across the Motorola two way radios and purchased 4 of them to test how they worked. I kick myself for not getting more radios to start with because they worked great. These Motoral radios have a range of 23 miles and no one was ever out of touch with any of us. Then the succeeding year I got more of these so each boat had one. Which worked out great as the previous year my uncle's boat wouldn't start and he was about 3 miles from the camp. But since he had a radio in his boat he just called us and we went out and got him. If I never bought those two-way radios he would have had to row this rather large boat back to the house which was roughly a 3 mile trip.

Getting these radios is one of the best buys I have ever made in my life. Something else I love is that these radios come with rechargeable batteries so you don't have to worry about bringing enough batteries with you when you use them. You can even be updated on the weather with the weather band that these two-way radios come with.

And the uses of these radios are almost unlimited. My mother decided to take all the grandchildren to Disney Land and wanted to know if she could take the radios with, naturally I said yes. Her fear was that one of the grandkids would end up wandering off and get lost. Thank goodness these Motorola radios didn't have to be used for a lost child, but all the children still had a great time using them as regular walkie talkies.

Likewise, we have started to take these two-way radios hunting with us because the land we hunt on is large and we like to know when people leave. You have no idea what a time saver this can be unless you have ever been walking around the woods trying to search for a person you can't find, simply because they got cold and decided to go home.

Virtually everyone in my family went out and bought a headset for the two-way radio they use so when we are hunting we can keep things quiet. With 121 privacy codes and 22 different channels that can be used, you don't have to worry about other two-way radios interfering.

These two-way radios are extremely affordable at $39.95 for a pair when purchased through Amazon.com. While I have only shared a few different ways that we have used the Motorola radios, I am sure you can think of a lot more ways that you could put them to use.
