Pitch Anything - by Oren Klaff, A Book Review

By Graham Hunt

Pitch Anything is a book that I would never in a month of Sundays have read if I didn't have a little buzz thing within my head called Ed Dale telling me, "you have got to read this book, you have to read this book, read this book, read this book, best book of the decade" etc

So I read this book. Yesterday. At one time. In 6 hours. With notes.

I don't normally do that.

So why did I do it?

Well life is a pitch is it not? In your business you are constantly trying to sell your products or service but in so many ways you are endeavoring to sell yourself. Pitch Anything is about getting the position of the Alpha person in the room without being an a***hole about it. Let's come clean, if Mother Theresa of Calcutta can manage to do it to a bunch of high-profile surgeons in California then everybody can do it and she never truly presented as an a***hole did she?

It's about taking control of the situation by utilizing Frames. It's about being engaging and funny and it's about delivering your pitch well.

The book is written in a very conversational style which befits somebody writing it with the requisite 10,000 hours of training. It comes simply to the writer however and it is presented in a way that is easy to follow. The point that's of interest is taking the concepts andusing them.

Anyhow yesterday I went into hibernation to read the book, something I never do. I even turned off the Facebook notifications and ignored Twitter the whole afternoon. The iPad was used for reading and the iPhone for taking the notes (Probably a very bad idea as it slowed me down "Note to self, next time use the Mac to take notes, make a mind map or maybe use paper heaven forbid)

One thing did get through though.

A phone call I had been waiting for from a client about a home sale. I thought, wouldn't it be exciting to apply the concepts I have read about so far to this dialogue and play around a bit?

So I did.

And I sold the house. Convinced the seller about the price offer using a better "Frame". Did the job for my client, the buyer

So to wrap up the review, I'm sold on this. Are you?

Get it. It's worth it.
