Start Reading Using Electronic Book Reader

By Maxine Trawney

The Kindle reader is an eBook reader from Amazon. It is a wireless reading device that allows users to download and read electronic books, magazines, newspapers, and even blogs. A Kindle owner can carry his or her entire library in this single device. A whole new generation of book enthusiasts is getting interested, and impressed, with what this little gadget has to offer.

With all it amazing new features, Amazon's latest Kindle is already quite appealing to a lot of voracious readers. The improved E-Ink Pearl Display Technology, the larger internal memory capacity, and the smaller and slimmer appearance of the device, are just among the features that make this wireless reading device quite impressive. However, are you aware that the new Kindle has functional shortcuts and hidden features? Most Kindle owners do not know this, but the Kindle 3 is much more than just an eBook reader.

The menu button, for example, does not just allow the user to access the menu. You can use the menu button to display the current time, which is located at the top-center of the screen. If you press the menu button at the Kindle's home screen, you can actually see the amount of available memory your electronic book reader has left for storage use. The information is displayed on the top-left corner of the screen, and is represented in megabytes.

Amazon's new Kindle reader has reading shortcuts as well, which many of its owners may not know about. As you are enjoying your newly downloaded eBook, you can jump to the start of the next chapter by pressing the "Right Arrow" key on the device's directional pad. If you decide to go back to the start of the previous chapter, just press the "Left Arrow" key and you're there. Adding a bookmark is made easy as well by pressing "Alt + B". The bookmark is then placed exactly where the cursor is located on the page.

Want to turn on the "text-to-speech" feature of your Kindle? There is a shortcut for that too. While you are on a particular page, you can press the "Shift" key and the "Sym" key at the same time to turn on the said feature. The text-to-speech will then begin reading in the location where your cursor lies. If you wish to stop the function, simply press the same button combination. If you want to listen to your mp3 files while reading, just press the "Alt" and "Spacebar" buttons, and the mp3 player will start playing your songs.

As you can see, this electronic book reader not only has exceptional features, its functionality is quite impressive as well. It even has two hidden games that do not show in the main menu. Did you know that? Press "Shift + Alt + M" and you get access to the "Minesweeper" game. From there, you can access the "GoMoku" game by pressing "G". Now you will have something to show off to your friends and fellow Kindle owners.
