Techno Songs by New Techno Artist The Third Temple

By Jeremy Reyes

If you're like me and you're a little tired of the same old shallow techno music, and want to try something more intelligent, then Third Temple might be the answer for you. Music which you can listen and concentrate on, or dance to, depending on your mood. In fact, you might even want to do both at the same time.

His latest album is "Sanctuary", though previously he also debuted with a great techno album in the "The Cave." It's possible that he might not remain an independent artist when the major labels catch a whiff of him.

"Shushan" is a reference to an ancient city where great prophetic visions and also life-threatening dramas took place, and it also produces one very great track which can make you sway all parts of your body. Shows the penchant for Third Temple to combine history and entertainment seamlessly.

"Machine Language" is exactly what the title implies. If computers could ever talk to each other, this is likely how they would sound like. If they could dance, then this is the kind of song they'd use in their robot dance clubs. You can almost imagine C3P0 and R2D2 enjoying this kind of song.

A more cultural and emotive techno song is offered in "Nine Days in Prague", which I take it is inspired by an actual vacation to the old city. Prague has experienced everything you can think of, from old religious wars to the horrors of World Wars I and II. It's this loneliness that the song I think somehow is able to tap, but midway it shows hope and sparkling neon lights, a gateway into the future, before it relapses into its medieval loneliness.

If you want to take a mind and soul journey to distant Eastern lands, with your hips and shoulders still shaking on the dance floor, then "Viceroy" is an interesting vehicle for such an experience. It's eclectic, syncretic, and just downright colorful, and shows a promising direction to Third Temple. I guess the historical references are kept intact as well, a reference to the British viceroy governors in India.

His song "Two Birds" is a darker and more industrial offering, which old school techno enthusiasts will appreciate. It's like becoming part of a metallic factory, with all the conveyor belts and robotic arms doing the work, driving you along, to somewhere you'd rather not be.

Something which I'd really like to see more of is the laid-back and almost spiritual meditation of something like "Huggs", which is his only pure ambient techno song to date. It still plays with a signature style, given those strange textures that erupt every now and then. Which is good, because the tendency when it comes to Ambient is that anyone can sound like anyone else. Something which Third Temple knows how to avoid.

"Sabbath with Devorah" is a glimpse of how you might combine or marry techno music with something more spiritual and divine. Dancing yes, but also a level of spirituality that harks back to revelation, wars, and visions of ancient times. I think it's this motive that drives Third Temple which separates him from the rest. It's not about money, but about art, serious art at that.
